Famous Cocktails
Sazerac
1 Cube Sugar
1 1/2 oz Rye Whiskey (or Bourbon)
1/4 oz Herbsaint (or Absinthe)
3 Dashes Peychaud's Bitters
Lemon Peel
Muddle sugar cube and bitters in an old-fashioned glass or shaker. Add whiskey. "Rinse" a clean old-fashioned glass with Herbsaint, and dump the extra. Add ice to "rinsed" glass and pour in your mixture. Garnish with a lemon peel.
Gin Martini
2 3/4 oz Gin
3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
Lemon Twist or Olives for Garnish
1/2 oz Olive Brine (optional for dirty)
Combine liquids in an ice-filled shaker. Stir (shaking is for a vodka martini) vigorously 10-15 seconds. Strain into a martini glass & garnish with lemon or olives.Â
French 75
1 1/2 oz Gin
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
3/4 oz Simple Syrup
2 oz Champaign (or any dry sparkling wine)
Lemon Peel, Rosemary Sprig (garnish)
Combine gin, lemon juice, & simple syrup in an ice-filled shaker and shake vigorously (30 seconds). Strain into a champaign glass. Rub rim with lemon peel and garnish with the peel and rosemary sprig.
Old Fashioned
1 Sugar Cube
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 Dash Water
1 1/2 oz Rye Whiskey (or Bourbon)
Orange Peel (or slice)
Luxardo or Maraschino Cherry (optional)
Muddle sugar cube, bitters, & water in an old-fashioned glass. Pour in whiskey & add large ice cube or fill with small cubes. Garnish with orange & cherry.
Margarita
3 oz Tequila
2 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Simple Syrup
1 tsp Orange Liqueur (triple sec)
Lime Sugar or Salt (lime juice blended with sugar, salt, or both)
Add all liquids to an ice-filled shaker & shake for 30 seconds. Spread lime sugar/salt onto a small plate. Wet rim of a chilled glass and press into lime sugar/salt mixture to line the rim. Strain or pour margarita into glass.
Cosmopolitan
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Cranberry Juice Cocktail
3/4 oz Lime Juice
3/4 oz Triple Sec (orange liqueur)
Orange Peel or Twist
Combine all liquids in an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously 20-30 seconds. Strain into a martini or champaign glass and garnish with orange peel or twist.
Mojito
1 1/2 oz White Rum
10-12 Fresh Mint Leaves
1/2 Lime, cut into 3 Wedges
2 tblsp White Sugar (or to taste)
1/2 Cup Club Soda (as needed)
Add mint leaves & 1 lime wedge to a glass and crush with a muddler. Add 2 more lime wedges & 2 tblsp sugar, and muddle again. Add ice to the glass & pour in rum. Top off with club soda & add more sugar as desired.
Manhattan
2 oz Whiskey
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 Dash Bitters
Luxardo or Maraschino Cherry
Add ice to a shaker, then pour in vermouth then whiskey. Stir, then add dash of bitters. Strain into cocktail glass of choice and garnish with a luxardo or maraschino cherry.
Long Island Iced Tea
1/2 oz Vodka
1/2 oz Rum
1/2 oz Gin
1/2 oz Tequila
1/2 oz Triple Sec (orange liqueur)
1 oz Sweet & Sour Mix
1-2 oz Cola
Lemon Slice
Combine all liquids except cola in an ice-filled shaker. Shake & then pour into a collins or hurricane glass. Top off with cola & garnish with lemon.
